Biography
Melissa Arthur paints along her favorite hiking trails and is attracted to the challenge of attempting to capture a moment of beauty in ever-changing outdoor elements. She strives to simplify the landscape into one theme that conveys the mood of a scene. Patterns in nature and influences of light are of interest to the artist when selecting a scene to paint.
Melissa Arthur has participated in national juried exhibitions, gallery shows and plein air painting festivals. In 2015 she was an invited artist in Celebrating Rocky: 100 Years of Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado. She was an invited artist in the 2015 Paint The Poudre Plein Air Exhibition. She won the Artists' Choice Award in the 2014 En Plein Air Texas. She won the Best of Acrylic Award in the 2014 Louisville Art Association Fall Members Show. She won a steak and lobster dinner train ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad for her painting of Devil's Gate during the 2013 Colorado Plein Air Arts Festival. She participated in a painting marathon with Plein Air Artists Colorado that was mentioned in the August - September 2013 issue of Plein Air Magazine.
